Welcome to the New Zealand GPS Society

Geocaching

Geocaching is a real world, high tech treasure hunting game. Players use handheld devices with GPS to find ‘caches’ hidden by other players. It is a great way to take technology to the outdoors, get fit, and have fun!

Community

We maintain the largest online geocaching and GPS community in New Zealand, with active forums with over 44,000 posts since they were started in January, 2003.

Events and Training

Are you looking at running an event for recreational navigation or geocaching? The Society has a pool of GPS units that we make available for promoting GPS use.

About

The New Zealand Recreational GPS Society Inc. was formed in 2003 by a group of geocachers. As well as promoting GPS and recreational GPS activities, the Society also consults and works with government agencies, including the availability of mapping data for recreational usage.

Act

Want to help out? We are always looking for volunteers to lead and support our activities - whether running events or training courses, providing assistance in the forum. Additionally, there are other related communities that we would encourage you to support, including the New Zealand Open GPS Maps project, and OpenStreetMap.
